From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:
(Edgewood, MD – May 3, 2010) At approximately 9:00pm on Sunday May 2, 2010, Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a request to check on the well-being of Joseph Richard Carpintieri, age 71, of the 1400 block of St. Michaels Court in Edgewood, MD.
Upon arrival, deputies entered the residence to investigate. They located Mr. Carpintieri, inside, already deceased. The circumstances surrounding Mr. Carpintieri’s death appeared to be suspicious and have now been officially ruled a homicide by the medical examiner. Harford County Sheriff’s Office detectives are currently investigating. This is the first homicide in 2010 to be investigated by the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.

UPDATE: The Harford County Sheriff’s Office tells The Dagger that a member of Carpintieri’s church asked deputies to check on his well-being, saying he had missed church on Sunday, which was out of the ordinary. He also had a heart condition, according to Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Monica Worrell.
