From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:
A cooperative effort between the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police and the FBI has resulted in the arrest of David Junior Shaffer, age 50, of Churchville, MD and John McKinley Shaffer, age 54, of Aberdeen, MD in connection with the bank robbery of the NBRS Financial Bank located in Street, MD that occurred on the afternoon of Monday, April 12, 2010.
On Monday, April 12, 2010 at approximately 4pm., Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the NBRS Financial Bank in the 3500 block of Conowingo Road, Street, MD in reference to a reported robbery. A white male with mask entered the bank handed a note to the teller and demanded money. He was described as approximately five feet eight inches tall, 180 lbs, wearing a tan jacket and baseball cap. Upon exiting the bank, he got into a Yellow Dodge truck driven by the second suspect.
Investigators of the Harford County Joint Investigations Unit consisting of detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police Bel Air Barracks were able to determine from bank surveillance videos, as well as surrounding local businesses surveillance videos that the Yellow Dodge was a “Rumble Bee” pick up truck. In addition to color and style, the truck had several unique characteristics and markings that led detectives to the vehicle’s owner and operator. Additional video footage showed the suspects changing a license plate; this information was later used to confirm the suspects’ identity as the perpetrators of the crime.
The driver was identified as David Junior Shaffer and the passenger, who had entered the bank demanding cash, was identified as John McKinley Shaffer. David Junior Shaffer was arrested on April 14, 2010. He is being held on $ 250,000.00 bond. John McKinley Shaffer was arrested on April 15, 2010. His bail review hearing is scheduled for Friday, April 16, 2010 at 1pm in District Court. They are charged as follows:
