It’s official in Harford County: Bob Ehrlich is running for governor. The Republican candidate’s 2010 announcement took place within sight of the location of his 2006 Bel Air announcement, the building that is now the Dark Horse restaurant. Ehrlich is certainly not the Dark Horse he was in 2002, when he ran a strong grass-roots focused campaign to defy the odds and become the first Republican governor in Maryland in 36 years. Nevertheless, Ehrlich will have to overcome the odds again to win his rematch with a Democrat governor in a state that the Democrats have had a legislative choke-hold on for time immemorial.
Ehrlich said that Harford would be an “essential county” for his reelection bid, adding that the same results in Harford as before wouldn’t be enough in 2010. In 2002, Ehrlich received 74 percent of the ballots cast- but the now-announced-candidate says that he will need 76 to 78 percent of Harford’s votes in November.
After an introduction by County Executive David Craig, Ehrlich told the roughly 250 in attendance that this was not a grudge match. “My last grudge match was in middle school. I won, by the way,” Ehrlich said before labeling the race a “contest for the future of the state of Maryland.”
Ehrlich painted a picture of his campaign message, arguing that the election will be about those who kill jobs and those who allow the private sector to create jobs. He asked supporters to go the extra step, and to turn their near-depression over national political events into activism. Ehrlich said that is what is necessary to “show that arrogant monopoly in Annapolis that we are here to stay.”
After saying that Maryland is highly taxed and highly regulated, Ehrlich said that he would send a message that Maryland was back in business and would compete with Virginia again.
Ehrlich gave the crowd a piece of advice, telling them to tell their friends “the difference between Ehrlich and O’Malley is that I am the last thing between you and a three billion dollar tax increase.”
Ehrlich did not mention his primary challenger Brian Murphy, who received the endorsement of former state GOP chair Jim Pelera this week. Neither was any mention made of increasing speculation that Wayne Curry, the County Executive of Prince George’s county, will pose a serious and financialy draining primary challenge to the incumbent governor.
In introducing Ehrlich, Craig announced that the two candidates would be sharing a campaign office at a newly rennovated building in Bel Air. The arrangement ties the candidates together, an interesting dynamic within the county as Craig has a contested primary and Ehrlich can use support to push his total in Harford over the 75th percentile.

Ehrlich…..What a bunch of B.S. didn’t BRAC come here under his watch? Talk about creating jobs in the private vs public sector. AND don’t forget the Flush tax
fedup says
Oh, I think BRAC decisions are independent of Governors… after all, it makes sense to bring folks here since attempting to close APG or Edgewood would result in Superfund sites that would cost billions and take decades to complete…

Whether you like Ehrlich or not, Omalley has to get the hell out of md. He turned this state into a sanctuary state of illegals. $2billion of our tax $$ last year went to illegal aliens and their supporting groups like casa de maryland who has several day labor camps where they send “illegal aliens to work day jobs for cash”. Our tax $$ at work. If you know anyone out of work in md, thank omalley for allowing illegal aliens to collect welfare, vote, get a drivers license and take the jobs of our citizens. they working all over our roads with SHA through subcontractors and every where else. Vote smart and not the same ole name recognition that lefty’s do allt he time. Vote out O’malley, Mike Miller, Mike Busch, Munson, Ivy, Vallario, Hammen, Mikulski, Cardin and so many more who have sold us out to illegal aliens.
Okay says
Wait the illegal immigrants took our jobs? Really? Riddle me this Mr. Activist, are any of the jobs that the illegal immigrants hold actually jobs any of us would want? Regardless of where you stand on immigration I’m pretty sure “taking our jobs” is THE weakest and most irrelevant argument. Plus if they’re paid in cash they DONT have to be paid minimum wage. I’m pretty sure our collective American sense of entitlement would protect us from ever having to work these jobs you speak of. For the wages they pay them. Thank you.
amdactivist says
i’m not here to fight with you or anyone, but yes, illegal immigrants are taking jobs of our citizens. And the excuse that they take jobs americans don’t want is bs. After 10 years many illegal aliens are still illegal. Why do they want to become productive citizens if they get all our tax $$ through welfare and its freebies and they drive, vote and other things and still work for cash. Many of them are using fake or no ids to get welfare. These are facts and they are on the md general assembly website. 79%-89% are still illegal aliens after 10 years depending on whose reporting but i think thats a pretty good average. Do like our ancestors did. Come here, learn english, support theirself. Don’t have babies unless you can pay for them not rely on others to support their kids through college while the parents work for cash. Our ancestors were too proud to use and abuse this country. They hung the American flag with pride not burn it. They cherished this country and kept their property immaculately clean, not destroyed it. If you want to come to America, Get legal, get a job, pay your fair share of taxes like the rest of us and stay off the welfare rolls. Do you know how much money leaving our country? Do you know that the kids aren’t being inoculated for schools til about 30 days or longer in some states and many crossing the border with tb and other problems. Diseases we eradicated many years ago..
Cdev says
If we eradicated them how do they bring them? As far as I know Small Pox was the only one eradicated! The Amish don’t vacinate either are you going to demonize them too?

I have a business in NW Baltimore City, an area of very high unemployment. The City is currently working on the sidewalks and curbs in our block. ALL THE WORKERS ARE HISPANIC! They are doing jobs a lot of people want. Given that the City and State are sanctuaries for illegals, I’m willing to bet a number of those workers are not here legally. In case anyone is wondering, calls to ICE, the City and the State go unanswered.
amdactivist says

11. Check for expired tags usually from other states and call 911. Most operating cars illegally..
All of this can be done anonymous
Cdev says
You can not call 911 anonomously and clling about expired tags is an abuse of the purpose for 911. 311 would be more appropriate.
amdactivist says
cd. I called 911 a few times and they responded but i’ll try 311 .. ty

I went to his site and if half of what he posts is true he will get my vote. I just cannot stand Ehrlich
amdactivist says
the difference is I am in annapolis testifying every year for about 3 years now. I’ve met omalley 3 times and all 3 times i’ve asked about spending our $$ on illegal aliens and he turns away and talks to someone else. It has been observed by others. He does NOT tell the truth and he pads and expands his stats. He has articles posted about his great works and those national articles come from rockville md.. he just lies and to be honest with you, i voted for him while my family voted for ehrlich and it was the worst mistake i could make. I am also a 35/36 yr democrat.
ceedunny says
Ehrlich avoided raising taxes by raising existing fees and instituting new ones. Creative taxation is still TAXATION. Better to call a tax a tax than to call one a service fee increase.
amdactivist says
Ehrlich never came close to the Average $2billion a year going to illegal aliens and their groups like Casa de maryland and identity inc. Casa this year asked for another $500k. A lowered amount this year compared to $$millions other years. We protestors screamed loudly and they gave them $200k which was $200k too much. They have more than $6 million on their books and they have day labor camps throughout md where they send illegal aliens to work for cash day jobs. A place employers go and pick them up for work. All of it is aiding and abetting illegal aliens. Ehrlich would not do this.. fyi.. Illegal aliens are voting.. Vote out Omalley, mike miller, mike busch, Munson, Ivey, Guittierez, Vallario,Mikulski, and others. will post the list later.
Geebunny says
Martin O’Malley passed the BIGGEST TAX HIKE in MARYLAND HISTORY. You guys nitpicking about one toll going up are ridiculous. O’Malley’s tax hikes will cost the average family $3-5k in new taxes and that’s not even including the higher prices we pay because of increased corporate taxes.
What really bugs me is that O’Malley couldn’t find Harford on a map if his life depended on it. He’s come up for the parade and that’s about it.

the cost of immigration in md. $1.4 billion last year in md. tax $$

In April 2009, O’Malley signed a traffic speed camera enforcement law
(Senate Bill 277), a bill which he supported and fought for in order to
help raise revenue to try to balance the record deficit facing Maryland.
Through strong lobbying by O’Malley, the bill was revived after first having been
defeated. After a second vote, the measure barely passed by a few votes.
The bill continues to face harsh bi-partisan criticism and has been called a tax
on drivers by opponents of the bill. The bill has also sparked a ballot referendum
effort sponsored by the not-for-profit group

Ex-governor had his time and accomplished nothing. Increased state govt, increased govt employment and did not work well with the legislature in any area of consequence. He also hired friends and family and let go of outstanding govt workers because they weren’t dems.
The exgov is nothing but a bit player in the Free State and would be better moving to PA were he would stand a better chance of getting hired, or he can stay is his figure head job at the fancy law firm with his political buddies.
miket says
I f they moved to Pa. would that get him off the radio? Whining and moaning about all the “Problems” that he didn’t have Anything to do with but, offering no solutions.
Ron says
Cisco, while I agree that Ehrlich increased taxes and played political roulette with the state house, I would have to say that the argument about him providing perks to family is just as thick as it is with O’Malley. The problem is that Maryland has a sickening amount of government programs that subsidize everything from utility bills to expansive housing. Both Erlich and O’Malley grew the government, but would claim to be fiscally sound.
Again the main culprit is not so much illegal aliens, as is an easy one-liner to explain all ones problems away, but rather the vast amount of programs that are wasteful. Not to mention the DNR regulations on hunting which discourage hunting in Maryland and provide outrageous fees for residents and fisherman to ethically fish/hunt. Thats another story…bottom line is until someone decides to take an axe to some of the ridiculous programs that are not producing any civil gain, then taxes will continue to increase regardless of who is in office. Although I’m sure Ehrlich will show off his fancy football tosses to woe the folks who like bright shiny objects, and O’malley will promise more programs with no funding to support them.
amdactivist says
Illegal aliens in md is the #1 culprit. Not only do they take our $$ for welfare, sec 8 housing, food stamps, emergency cash assistance, reduced utility costs, health and schooling for their kids. $28 million average a year for being incarcerated and so much more. Yet they work for cash and taking thousands of our jobs like the state highway admin. through subcontractors.
