The following letter was received from Patrick McGrady:
On Monday, November 16, 2009 the Route 40 Republican Club hosted it’s first fundraising event at the Wetlands Golf Club in Aberdeen. More than 250 people attended the dinner and by 6:00PM the only space left was standing room.
Stephen Wright, the President of the Route 40 Republican Club spoke about the resurgence of conservative values in Harford County. Delegate Pat McDonough spoke next, saying that if Ehrlich were to run for Governor he would support him, but if he made the “wrong” choice (and chose not to run), McDonough would run for Governor. Delegate Rick Impallaria spoke next and continued to pump up the audience for the honored guest.
The featured speaker at the dinner was Maryland Governor Bob Ehrlich. Ehrlich spoke about taking back Maryland because even though “Maryland is the bluest state,” there is great opportunity to change the way government operates here and return to sustainability. Throughout the evening the former Governor was being pressured to run for the Governorship again.
Members of many like-minded coalition partners were present including the Harford County Chapter of the non-partisan Campaign for Liberty, which filled 3 tables with members. Other represented groups included the Americans for Prosperity, Americans for Limited Government, and the Maryland Taxpayers Association.
After the Ehrlich speech, the first annual Patrick J. Citroni Award was given to David Pridgeon of Abingdon. Mr. Citroni was a liberty-minded Republican who died in a tragic motorcycle accident on September 18, 2008. Established by the Route 40 Republican Club, this award will be annually awarded to an individual who has advanced the cause of the liberty and constitution movement within the Republican party.
Dave Pridgeon has left his mark on the State of Maryland over the past year. Soft-spoken and humble during normal conversation, Dave is quick to stand up for the cause of liberty. He is a co-coordinator of the Harford County Chapter of the Campaign for Liberty as well as the VP of the Route 40 Republican Club.
Thanks to the success of the Route 40 Republican Club, a new club has garnered interest in the northern part of the County. The new North Harford Republican Club is meeting Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 7PM at Lucia’s Italian Restaurant(Next to North Harford High School). It would be great if Bob Ehrlich would serve as governor again. The current administration has not worked out well for Maryland!
