Harford Republican Central Committee Member Stephen M. Wright has filed to run for Harford County Executive in 2010. Wright will challenge incumbent and fellow Republican David R. Craig.
Wright told The Dagger that he co-founded the Rt. 40 Republican Club to help Republicans and to re-elect Craig, but he said that Craig’s Chief of Staff, Aaron Tomarchio, “attacked me every step of the way”. Wright said he “got tired of it” in the last few days.
Wright also said he believed he was censured for an unexcused absence from a meeting of the Republican Central Committee of Harford County on Tuesday when he was attending a public hearing to support legislation sponsored by another central committee member, Harford County Councilman Chad Shrodes.
Wright said he thought he would have support for his candidacy from the general public who he said was “tired of politics as usual.” He said he supported a repeal of the development impact fee in Harford County, the bill he testified to support on Tuesday night. “I think that the Harford County citizens are taxed too much”, Wright said and the current administration was “more concerned about politics than taking care of the citizens, and I’m going to try to resolve that.”

I am glad Mr. Wright has jumped in. Someone has to expose Mr. Craig and his $100,000+ employee/campaign workers Tomarchio and Gibson and the list goes on..The debates should be great.
Based on the quotes provided from Mr. Wright, I can’t but question his motive.
I am wondering what Mr. Wright finds wrong with Mr. Craig besides some tiff with some of his staff. What does he want to do differently than Executive Craig?
Is this the same Stephen Wright that was so involved with ‘Friends of Aberdeen’/ birthday card/re-elect Fred Simmons/ ‘Save the Wetlands’ disaster a few years back?
Sounds like a very selfish motive for running for public office. In fact, that is politics as ususal! Talk about political games, This guy is a master at turning everything political. Look at what he and his minions did to the Bel Air 4th of July parade.
I applaud Mr. Wright’s decision to run for County Executive.
Stephen has a keen understanding the burden over taxation has on taxpayers. I am confident he can reign in out of control spending and that he knows how to work effectively with the council and county staff to deliver value and essential services.

Now that’s funny considering that he’s the reason there is a fractured Republican Party in Harford County.
Makes great sense… by repealing the impact fee Wright is making all the citizens of Harford County pay the cost of new school construction caused by development… makes sense to me.
Of course, Craig is a joke. With him wasting tax dollars to redecorate his office and pay a bunch of clowns huge salaries.
Maybe if there was a third choice…

Who Should Pay? You know Ann Helton gave Dave Craig a good race the last time in 06 for county executive. Some say she would’ve won if it were not for her last name, HELTON. Maybe there is a candidate or two from the democratic party like Riley, James, Lisanti, even Dion who may run against Craig. We all know, Wright is wrong for any position.
But the only reason Helton did so well was because of the Helton money… Can’t have the cash without the last name.
I say Lisanti should run
She has the most experience and knows what shes doing
She could probubly beat Craig in the General by a divided GOP
and a solid democratic base
Plus she not a puppet of Art Helton
I would support Mary Ann Lisanti! She is very good at looking at all sides of a topic and can be counted on to research non-biased information before making a decision! Her only obligation is what is best for Harford County!!
Think back to when a charismatic handsome Irish singing young man won in Baltimore City thanks to a three-man race.
Perhaps this could be an opportunity for some young and upcoming Political figure

Craig’s nut sack has forgoten more about politics and leadership than Steve Wright will ever know!
Did Wright announce his resignation from the central committee at the same time? He got Mike Geppi to resign with rhetoric that Geppi was running against an incumbent Republican and saying that was one of the problem with Repbulican party. Now he is doing the same thing.
Dems like James are way too lazy. She cannot even attend events in her own district besides she could never explain why she held up an elected school board for seven years while her own children attended an elite private school in cecil county. Riley may not hold his own seat. Dion’s the only dem who works the the whole county. Lisanti will not run. She is owned by the same developers who own craig and boniface.
I appreciate all the nice comments. I am keeping my options open. I think 2010 will be one of the more exciting election years we have seen in Harford County in decades. I will be happy to be a part of it.
