COLORA, Md.—The Harford women’s soccer team bounced back from its first loss of the season against Burlington on Monday with a 9-0 drubbing of Cecil on Wednesday at West Nottingham Academy. Redshirt freshman Lyndsie Ludwig (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright/Wilmington) and freshman Beth Lambros (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) notched hat tricks for the Fighting Owls (6-1, 3-0 MDJUCO) while also adding one assist each.
The Owls were relentless, pelting the Seahawks (0-6, 0-4 MDJUCO) with 40 shots, 25 of them on goal. Cecil keeper Amanda Lester had a career-day, due to the sheer volume of chances, totaling 16 saves in 90:00.
Ludwig and Lambros would trade goals within five minutes of each other from the 6th to the 11th minute with assists by freshmen Erin Lynn (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Jet Amerg (Elkton, Md./Rising Sun), respectively, to take a 2-0 lead.
Ludwig would add her second during the 22nd minute off a right cross from Lambros which she finished from six yards out and Lynn would tally the first of her two goals on the day as she took a pass through the Cecil defense from freshman Penelope Fantis (Fallston, Md./Fallston) in the 24th minute to give the Owls a 4-0 advantage.
Fantis would hook up with a forward again, this time with Lambros finishing the breakaway off a through ball in the 25th minute, while Ludwig would complete her hat trick after a cross from freshman Katelyn McPhee (Abingdon, Md./Edgewood), which she put into the lower right corner at the 26:00 minute mark. That score would complete a four-goal scoring run over the course of five minutes for Harford as they took a 6-0 advantage into the half.
Lambros would complete her hat trick 15 minutes into the second half, at the 60:00 mark as she one-timed Ludwig’s cross for Harford’s eighth tally of the game.
Lynn would add her second goal of the day 10 minutes later, during the 71st minute, while sophomore Kaylee Smith (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) added her first point of the season with the assist.
Sophomore Erica Bizzell (Bel Air, Md./Redeemer Classical) would see her first tally of the season, as well, as she took a pass from freshman Brianna Barmer (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) and fired from 20 yards out in the 89th minute as Harford rolled to the 9-0 win.
The Owls outshot the Seahawks 40-4 and held a 6-2 advantage on corner kicks, but Lester tallied 16 saves in 90:00 while freshmen Cierra Stinson (Nottingham, Md./Mercy) and Alexandra Davis (Street, Md./North Harford) split time in the net, each recording four saves in 45:00, in their third combined shutout of the season.
The Fighting Owls continue five-game roadstand with their third outing on Tuesday, September 22 at Frederick before taking a trip to the south to face the Mary Washington club team and Louisburg next weekend.
