Welcome to a new year of Pigskin Prognosticating! For those that are new, here is how it works:
Pick a winner (straight up) of all the week’s games and post it in a comment for the appropriate week’s post. There will be a new post for every week this season. Make sure you use the same name for your picks each week so we can track standings. The week’s schedules will be posted no later than 11:59 pm on Wednesdays. All entries must be entered as a comment before kickoff on the first game of the week. So if there is a Thursday game (like this week), ALL GAMES must be picked.
This year, we will be offering PRIZES! (Prizes TBD – we are looking for prize sponsors. Contact us if you are interested. Sponsors will receive free advertising on the Pigskin Prognosticating pages.)
There will be a mid-season leader prize to be determined after week 9, as well as an overall winner at the end of the season. Also, guess all the correct winners for an individual week, and you will receive a prize as well.
So without further adieu, here is Week 1’s schedule:

Week One Picks
PIT- OH! The pain associated with picking the Stillers! EEERRRGH!
ATL- No sophomore slump for M Ryan. Can Serena Williams suit up at QB?
PHI- No Vick? No problem
DEN- No O-Line for Palmer? BIG Problem…
MIN- How hard is it to take a snap, drop back and hand off to AP?
IND- The Jags are a hot mess until further notice…
NO- just…can’t…pick…team…as…bad..as…Lions…
BAL- No homer pick, the Chiefs have, um, issues.
SF- Cards exposed week one as FLUUUUKE. Flukey fluke-fluke.
NYG- The Redsnyders will be mathematically eliminated by wk 8
SEA- Rams are not good. Not good. Not. Good.
GB- Farve-less Packers still trump Veal Cutlet-er Bears.
NE- T.O. will throw first sideline tantrum by halftime.
SD- Would you call up your mom and say “hey, I met this great girl…What? Oh, she was on TV for a while, just Google her name… it’s Tequila, like the drink? Um, yeah, but she’s really nice!”
And, the Lead Pipe Lock of the Week, brought to you by Herb’s Lawn Care, “where all we do is grass:” Bucs over Romos

Nice! Since The Examiner folded and we don’t have Bimbo the Chimp to play “Beat the Chimp” against, I was looking for a good pick ’em pool. 🙂

Welcome aboard Tim. We had a pretty good time last season, hopefully Molly, Brian Young, Cindy, and MBQ will be chiming in and nothing beats the Dell “Lead Pipe Lock of the Week” or it’s sponsors!
Dell says
Thanks for the assist ‘Winger! How could I miss Mark “Dirty” Sanchez’s coming out party?
But, alas, the pick is: TEXANS!
Dell says
When I think of the football, my mind wanders to Paco and Walter, Mud Dogs SUPERFANS:
Paco: Look at Bobby tackle. I haven’t seen a tackle like that since Joe Montana.
Walter: Joe Montana was a quarterback, you idiot.
Paco: I said Joe Mantegna.

I’m here, Dell. The season can officially start! The road to the Superbowl starts off hot as the World Champs continue their opener winning streak. The big question: can any O-coordinator avoid the sweep?
PIT
ATL ha! Vick flew the coop.
PHI poor panthers, a slow fall to mediocrity.
CIN great call on the coaching change!
MIN Fav-re is perhaps the least exciting player on this team. Even the tackles have more interesting stories!
HOU Don’t mess wit
IND wins are nice, but missing the playoffs starts the decline.
NO Brees gets a TDs = jersey number
DAL Who is TBs QB? NOT one of the 8 “starter-worthy” guys they had last year.
BAL “Who is our starting tailback” less important than “who calls the plays?”
ARI Boldin shows Fitz, good as he is, may not be best on team. Show Him the Money! Vernon Davis remembers football isn’t modeling.
NYG Even Eli can’t blow this one…but no Tyree=no SB win.
SEA Hassel is back!
GB Favre who? Rodgers eclipses in pro bowl year.
NE Now this is the lock of the week. Moss upset as Owens, named coordinator, calls all 43 plays to himself.
SD “Marry me Merriman” signs not likely; Shawn learns lesson, shows typical NFL lack of responsibility, lets friends drive drunk.
Brian Young says
I call shenanigans on the Bengals. And the Cardinals…Warner, what are you doing? Intentionally sabotaging my fantasy leagues?
Jets-Houston…ok, straight wiffed on that one.
I would’ve welcomed those Chief/Bills/Raiders upsets though… HOW DID ALL THREE OF YOU BOTCH AWAY LEADS! AND THE FIRST TWO, GIVING UP LEADS BY ALLOWING 2 SCORES IN UNDER 2 MINUTES?!

Easiest week, and he starts with a loss! GO STEELERS!
Dell says
Maybe he’ll go 15-1!?
The Stillers looked rusty against the “who the hell are they?” Titans defense. I know they are a good unit, but, it should give the Ravens a glimmer of hope. If Polamalu is out 6 weeks, the Stillers do no better than 3-3 during that span. BOOK IT!
Brian Young says
Since they play the Bengals, Lions, and Browns in that span, I think they can manage 4-2. Now Cutler should throw more picks in 2 games than Orton had all last season, and without Urlacher it should be a Steeler win. The Chargers only beat the Raiders because of the prevent, so a Steeler win at home should be manageable. The sixth week is the Vikings at Pittsburgh, and by that point Fav-re should be back in his rocking chair tossing picks.
Probably won’t win them all, but 7-0 seems more likely than 3-3.

Molly, go right ahead, just take the loss for thursday. It’s ok, we’d be tied then 🙂
Steve says
10-4 so far, no too bad, but not great either. At least I hit on San Fran. Dell was the only other one that can see the Kurt Warner is getting old…
Steve says
OK, So here are the week 1 standings:
