The Dagger has learned that Art Helton is dropping out of the 2101 MD Senate District 34 Race. In an email sent out to supporters, Helton describes the reasoning behind his decision:
Dear Friends,
My recent accidental fall at my Church has resulted in more injury than was first diagnosed. I have serious trauma to my neck, including nerve damage. During my stay in the hospital, I found out I had issues relating to my heart. Currently I am under treatment for both medical problems. As a result of these medical issues I have decided to abandon my run for the Maryland Senate. In doing so, I want to thank all of you who have given me support and encouragement. Your support and efforts on my behalf will never be forgotten . I am still committed to public service and will find other ways to continue my involvement.
Art Helton
This leaves no announced challenger for incumbent Nancy Jacobs. For updates and speculation on all the local 2010 races, please be sure to check out our Harford Election 2010 page.
Jason N says
“I am still committed to public service and will find other ways to continue my involvement.” Hmm, can anyone guess how he will stay involved?
St. Justin says
Jason,
My guess…..Spreading filth about Hiob in the Aberdeen election.
Anyone else have any ideas?
Joe says
Who does that leave? Dion-the-taxman-Guthrie and I-scream-you-scream-we-all-scream-[at]Kilby? Oh joy to the world!
tony says
let’s see we have Nancy “pro life until they are old enough to be put to death death penalty supporter not very Christian f you ask me”,the family person who supports gambling depending who is in office, Violated the federal fair housing act and peoples rights by organizing and leading a group to keep a group home out of her neighborhood.” I’ll take Dion or Kilby anytime.
The Communicator says
Tony,
There was no violation of any federal housing act. The residents of Long Bar Harbor did not want criminals living in a half way house in their community. Neither would I. So if you are so concerned that these people’s rights were violated, help them establish a half way house in your neighborhood.
Yea, you got the pro life thing right too. Let’s kill an innocent baby but let the vicious criminal live……I am not a big pro life or pro choice person, I think there are unintended consequences with both scenarios and I don’t know te right answer. From a distance I have always thought that the pro choice people have it backwards – kill the babies and save the murderers.
Gambling – you know damn well it is political. When Ehrlich was governor the democrats fought him tooth and nail for no other reason than they did not want a republican to be responsible for the “slots victory”. When O’Malley gets in office it was a great idea and widely supported by the democrats. One thing is for sure, millions if not billions have been lost by delaying the slots.
ProudDemocrat says
“Millions if not billions have been lost”… actually billions and billions have been lost as a result of the ill-advised Bush tax-cuts levied while sending our country into an even more ill-advised war. Likewise here in Maryland, if Gov. O’Malley had not been blocked in his effort to make a more progressive tax system in the state (and if the county would not bow to pressures from a loud minority of people that want to make more regressive taxes), we probably would not need slots whatsoever.
The Communicator says
That’s the problem with the democrats. You see the money I make as yours. You think the redistribution of wealth is a plan to equality and fairness. You think because someone makes more money than you, then it is ok to tax them more, after all, they have more, right?
I want the government to tax less and spend less. That’s all. You want to spend the money of hardworking Americans. If you feel so strongly about funding educaton, pen a check to Harford County Schools. Personally, I think you are throwing your money away.
In regards to O’Malley, instead of looking at the spending and controlling it, his first response was to raise taxes. Tax and spend.
Phil Dirt says
“More progressive tax system” = “take more of my money”.
No thanks.
RWinger says
If Maryland was not on fast track to becoming a solidified welfare and amnesty state you probably wouldn’t need slots either. The People’s Republic of Montgomery County, PG County, good ole Baltimore City……thank them for the cancer and being soooooooo progressive.
Is it just a coincidence that the crime rate in Harford County rose by leaps and bounds when the projects were blown up in Baltimore and Baltimore County would not house the refugees? The influx in migration to the county brought with it some social ills and families now visit loved ones at graveyards.
As for Art Helton, perhaps he should just retire and stay out of politics, especially in Aberdeen. I believe that he has health issues, but his antics concerning Aberdeen government have not kept him in good graces with certain Annapolis movers and shakers.
DJ says
A speedy recovery wish to Mr. Helton. Take care of your health issues first and foremost! Although there are not a great deal of cordial folks posting at DaggerPress. I hope people can put politics to the side for just a few minutes to realize that this goes beyond that.
Pooh says
i agree with DJ please get well but take your time in doing so. while getting well please dont stress yourself or worry about the politics on a local state or federal level. just stay home and relax and please be quiet, we have heard enough from you.
St. Justin says
Pooh,
“Just stay HOME and relax”…..HOME in Joppatowne, or in Darlington? I bet that Joppatowne will have one less “resident” in a very short matter of time! (Joppatowne home values will no doubt increase though!)
Rakeback says
OMG this is really disappointing. We can only pray for his speedy recovery.May god bless him.
Hooter says
Does this mean the hair lady doesn’t have to “pay” her rent?
Feeless Groper says
I had the same heart trouble a while back and my doctor referred me to a very famous doctor who was published and wrote…” But I think the most likely reason of all may have been that his heart was two sizes too small.”
Dr. Suess
HIRAM LODGEPOLE says
well, i’ll be damned…he does have a heart?…
just dropped in says
He must have seen the Wizard of Oz
Average Whiteboy says
I will pray for Mr. Helton, for no one neither needs nor deserves pain and suffering. I will also pray for the citizens of this state, for we neither need nor deserve another “tax and spend” liberal. Our Governor is doing a fine job all by himself.

holy $%@^ i saw the complaint this really has to be the most deplorable behavior from an individual i have ever seen! Our MAYOR hitched his wagon to this horse are you kidding me !!
People need to take a look at this i dont understand how anyone can get away with this.I think something is rotten with all this .
Lorrie says
I would love to read the complaint…if I could figure out what to look for?? Could someone fill me in?
Sharon says
It’s been going around for a while that he pulled a Clinton, not because his renter was all gushy over the man, but in exchange for rent discounts. Wasn’t the first time it has gone around but this time there was apparently a police dispatch made and a statement so that there is a written accusation and such. There was no blue dress though so she said/ he said wasn’t getting picked up by the courts at this time.
St. Justin says
The “Mayor” has no vision, except Art’s. City residents say that the “Dynamic Duo” are out campaigning together! Can anyone understand why after so many (but not all) of Mr. Helton’s negatives are revealed, Mike Bennett continues to hitch his wagon (and political career) to this obnoxious loser? How many times has he (or his 3rd wife by proxy) been turned away by the voters (many more times than The Wetlands, which was only ONCE as R-3), and yet he continues to subject the electorate the the Art Helton “tried and untrue” form of slimeball Democratic politics. Folks like Art are the reason the Democratic Party is frowned upon by informed voters. Art needs to shut up, and retire to his sheep farm in Darlington (or his recently purchaced townhome in Joppatowne), and let a qualified candidate without so much baggage run for the District 34 State Senate seat in 2010!

Hey does anyone anywhere have any written proof of the complaint which is mentioned i would appreciate the oppurtunity to see it for myself.
JistWonderin' says
Joe;
Ther are copies of that report all over the place. My sources tell me that the Dagger was given a copy, but is afraid to post it.
Brian says
Your source, much like you sir, appears to be an imbecile.
See you next Wednesday.
JistWonderin says
You sir are a true genius with the written word. To be called an imbecile is somewhat new to me and for some reason I don’t feel the least bit insulted. Could it be something to do with consideration of the source?
DeepThroat says
I have a copy which i can provide you however the copy i have has Brian Goodmans name on it already , so i am a bit suprised that he doesnt have it perhaps he is writing a story to be released shortly?
two cents says
Mr./Ms. Throat can you post a link???
DW says

DeepThroat says
i dunno how i can do that but i will try i am sure Brian Goodman has a copy his name is on the complaint
i would think he could do it.Anyhow i will give it a try!
