Braveheart says
You can tell its Election Time around the corner. Jesse is rallying his friends in Edgewood.
Jesse, unfortunately for you, the cat is out of the bag. Your policy of crime displacement is causing serious problems for the rest of us in the County.
I’m sure your solution will be to build a substation in Street MD next to battle the Edgewood thugs you’ve moved in that direction. Soon your budget will be 50% of the County Operating Budget.
Blue says
Actually I have heard talk of a Havre de Grace/Churchville precinct. With that comes another round of promotions–a captain and lieutenants, sergeants and corporals for all 3 shifts–at least 10 promotions and he’ll get the $$$ from his buddy David Craig. Braveheart is right–Bane can have his feel good meetings in Edgewood but the voters are onto him now. He thinks he has the election in the bag. Wait until Meckley and the others start breathing down his neck.
Victoria says
Blue,
What is your take on Jeff Gahler, Roger Sheetz, and Steve Bodway?
RetiredCop says
Victoria, PLEASE read Steve Bodways resume. I worked with Steve and for Steve. He is what this department needs. He has a good plan for the future of the department. If you have any questions please ask me. If you want to talk to Steve go to his web site and call, he will return your call and speak with you I promise.
blue says
RetiredCop: Tell me you aren’t Steve Bodway. If you aren’t, you are his mouthpiece. Quit taking up valuable space on this forum patting yourself/Bodway on the back. Victoria, please talk to the current, not retired, deputies who worked with Bodway for the real story.
RetiredCop says
Blue I am not Steve Bodway nor his mouth piece. And Blue you know as well as I do that deputies who are still in the department can not talk freely about the current administration. You seem to have some of Bane’s great qualities which include not giving me my right to freedom of speech. If you know so much about Steve why don’t you share you thoughts, I worked with Bodway, Bane, and Meckley. I know them all. Because I am loyal to Steve this is a bad thing. I wish Victoria could talk to the current deputies, I do and I am told they will stay out of this because for the fear of coming out against Bane. Many of them, not all support Steve Bodway. Again, everyone seems to have a problem with Steve. If Steve was so bad why did the current Sheriff and many others let him teach ethics in the academy and in other jurisdictions? I think Blue wants to keep you away from
Steve because he knows Steve is the top guy for the job. Blue if all you can do is try to keep people from speaking with Steve shows me and your camp are worried. Debates are in June I believe. Victoria come to them to see the candidates, then make your decision. Victoria asked a question and I responded, I must have hit a nerve or you have an axe to grind with Steve. You were a deputy I am sure, you must have a grudge with Steve.
Boss 302 says
I think Roger Sheets is way ahead of the rest of the crowd. I’ve seen him everywhere, in parades at meetings, on the corner sign waving and I’ve read up on him. He has the backround and qualification to do this job. My vote is for Roger Sheets 2010.
Sam says
Roger Sheets doesn’t have a clue. Taking a look at the list I would have to go with Meckley. He knows how the agency works, where its at, and where it needs to go. He is just as fed up with all the BS that has taken place during the last three years.
Boss 302 says
Roger Sheets does have a clue and knows whats going on with the micro management, call centers, moving gangs to other area, etc. He wants to stand up for the men and women in law inforcement , listen to them and work with them to make a change. Don’t even think he doesn’t have a clue.
Bill says
Sorry Boss, but Sam is on the money. I’ve spoke with Mr. Sheets and he is clueless about Harford County and Harford County policing. He talks, but if you listen, he says nothing.

To Victoria:
Meckley – Definitely not qualified. He does not have the experience and political savvy needed for this position.
Sheets – Maybe, but I have to agree with one of the writers that it is likely he knows little about Harford County policing. On the other hand, a person coming in from the outside may bring some fresh ideas. Sheets works (or worked) for an agency that has always been in the forefront of technology and research. One may want to check to see what he has to offer (and perhaps determine if he participated the advances and progresses of the agency he serves (or served).
Bodway – Maybe, but just because one has worked at the agency for a number of years does not necessarily mean that he (or anyone else) is qualified to run the agency (as CEO). Moreover, it’s been said, you don’t have to be ethical to teach ethics. This in way way indicates that this candidate is not ethical, but since the comment was made, it should be something that one may want to follow-up on. One way of doing this is to ask others who knows the candidate and to follow up with the candidate himself.
Bane – Yet another maybe. It’s my understanding that he lets the union run the agency. I don’t know this for sure and it needs to be confirmed with members of the agency (not just union members, but also non-union and command personnel). Sheriff Bane has a degree of political savvy and he is generally well liked among those who hold the budget. As far as having (or not having a clue), you make the call.
Gahler – Yet another maybe. I don’t know much about him, but being a member of the state police does not necessarily qualify one to run this agency. We saw that in a prior administration many years ago that was an utter failure. Still, an outsider may bring in some new ideas.
Here is what one should consider:
– Does the person have political savvy to confront those who hold the purse strings (budget) and doing so without making enemies (think back to the Mele administration). This is important. Just like a chief of police and the superintendant of the state police (both political appointees and lackeys of the current administration), a sheriff is a political figure (elected by the people) who needs to be competent and resourceful in both policing and politics.
– It’s easily discernible from the comments above that you have a writer who is supportive of Meckley (probably a family member, close friend, or the candidate himself) and supporters (or mouthpieces) of the other candidates. Do your own research, look at the qualifications of the candidates; look at their education; and most importantly, their accomplishments. Look at their ideas and change they plan to bring to the agency. Don’t accept what they have to say, challenge the candidates by forcing them to explain how they plan to achieve what they are touting (given the state of the economy, etc.).
– Last, you make the call – based on what you learn and feel is best for the citizens of Harford County.

Bane doesn’t look out for his own, the deputies, etc how can he look out for the best interest of the residents of harford county.
