On June 8th and 9th, more than 120 volunteers from 17 locations of The Home Depot in the Baltimore region will be converging on the Aberdeen Unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County. During this time, the volunteers will be repainting walls, building shelves, re-carpeting floors and doing some general repairs and renovations to give the Club a whole new look. “The building has been around for 15 years with only minimal changes. This new partnership will give the Club a much needed new look.” says executive director Randy Acosta. “The kids and staff are all looking forward to the change and can’t wait to see their “new” Club.”
This project became a reality shortly after newly appointed Executive Director Randy Acosta arrived in Harford County. Mr. Acosta had participated in a similar project at a previous organization. When he relocated to Harford County, Mr. Acosta approached Sherre Maclin, district manager for The Home Depot and a plan began to take shape. “This partnership seemed like a natural fit. Employees of The Home Depot have the expertise needed to complete this project as well as a strong reputation for community involvement” says Mr. Acosta.
“Giving back is a fundamental value for The Home Depot and a passion for our associates,” said Maclin. “We are committed to giving back in the communities where our associates live and work and we are thrilled to partner with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Harford County on this project.”
Volunteers from The Home Depot will begin the work in earnest on Monday, June 8th. That afternoon they will be doing much of the work to prepare the Club for the major project on Tuesday, June 9th. On June 9th, volunteers will be arriving at the Aberdeen Club early in the morning, ready to get to work. The entire renovation will be completed on Tuesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony planned for 3 PM on Tuesday, June 9th.
