COLUMBIA, Md.—The Harford men’s lacrosse team wrapped up its season last Tuesday as it fell to No. 4 Howard, 20-3, in the Region XX Play-In game at Howard Community College. The Fighting Owls (6-12) stuck with the Dragons (4-9) from the start, but couldn’t manage to find the back of the net, while Howard got its shots past freshman keepers Bryan Burrill (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) and Lee Single (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood) virtually every chance.
Burrill and Single split time in the net for Harford, with Burrill manning the cage for the first and fourth periods and Single the second and third as the two combined for 15 saves, eight for Single and seven for Burrill.
Sophomore Chad Palmer (Fallston, Md./Fallston) led the team, tallying two goals, while freshman Andrew Gilpin (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) also added two points with a goal and an assist.
Kevin Topper paced the Dragons in the victory, tallying six points on five goals and one assist, while Eric Van Stone (3g, 1a) and Chris Dicea (1g, 3a) each added four points.
Harford could not manage a goal in the first quarter as Howard built a 6-0 advantage and then outscored the Owls 4-2 in the second to take a 10-2 lead into the half.
Harford’s woes continued in a scoreless third for the Owls, while the Dragons tacked on another five scores and Palmer scored in the waning seconds of the fourth to notch Harford’s final goal. Howard started that period off with five straight goals, completing a 12-0 run for the Dragons, which spanned three periods.
