COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Sophomore Chad Palmer (Fallston, Md./Fallston) has been named the NJCAA Lacrosse Player of the Week for the week ending March 8, the national office announced Thursday. Palmer is the first player to garner a weekly award for the 2009 season after leading the Fighting Owls (3-1) to two victories last week.
The attackman totaled 16 points on 13 goals and three assists in wins over Delaware Tech-Terry and Williamson Free Trade last week, including tallying the game-winner in double overtime on Thursday against the Hawks.
Palmer tallied a career-high seven goals and added one assist for eight total points against Del Tech on Thursday. His final goal of the game came just 34 seconds into the second overtime period, which clinched the 12-11 victory for the Owls.
On Saturday, the 5’10” Palmer added another six goals and tacked on two assists for eight more points on the way to the 10-5 victory over the Mechanics. Palmer saw one more milestone in the win over Williamson as he recorded a natural hat trick, scoring goals with 2:29 and 22 seconds remaining in the second period and then opened up scoring in the third at the 12:18 mark to complete the goal trio.
As of Wednesday, March 11, Palmer led the nation in goals and total points scored, but has since dropped to second with 14 goals and fourth with 19 points, respectively, as of Friday, March 13.
The Fighting Owls return to competition on Saturday, March 14 when they travel to Suffolk for a 2:00 p.m. game in Brentwood, N.Y., before facing Nassau on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. game in Garden City, N.Y.
