BEL AIR, Md.—Freshmen Sarah Spalt (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) and Kiara Reeves (Aberdeen, Md./C. Milton Wright) have been named to the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MDJUCO) All-Conference Honorable Mention team, the conference announced Wednesday.
Reeves, a 5-8 forward, finished the 2008-09 season averaging a double-double with 11.5 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game to lead the Harford team. Reeves mark of 10.2 rebounds per game through the regular season also ranked fifth in the MDJUCO conference.
The rookie tallied seven double-doubles on the season, including in the MDJUCO play-in game against Garrett where she put up 16 points and 13 rebounds. Her season-high of 24 points came at Cecil on Jan. 3, where she also added 10 rebounds and shot 10-for-22 from the field, but her best outing of the year was on Jan. 24 against Montgomery-College Rockville. Reeves totaled 21 points and grabbed a career-high 18 boards while blocking five shots and adding two steals.
Spalt, the 5-11 point guard for the Owls, finished the season just behind Reeves with an average of 10.4 points per game and 6.3
rebounds per game, while leading the team with a .382 field goal percentage. Spalt also finished the season averaging 3.2 steals and 2.7 assists per game and her 3.2 steals per game mark through the regular season ranked fourth in the conference.
The highlight of the season came early on for the Forest Hill, Md. native, as she tallied a triple-double and was just three steals away from a quadruple-double on Dec. 20 against Philadelphia. Spalt tallied a career-high 28 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists and tied a career-high with seven steals in the win over the Colonials, while shooting 11-for-13 from the field and 5-for-7 from the line.
