MCHENRY, Md.—The Harford women’s basketball team finished out the 2008-09 season as it was ousted during the play-in round of the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference. No. 10 Harford fell to No. 7 Garrett by a score of 60-35 on Tuesday night in McHenry, Md.
The Fighting Owls (7-17) finish with seven wins on the season, eclipsing their five wins of the 2007-08 season, while the Lakers improve to 7-12 and will take on No. 2 Hagerstown in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7:00 p.m. at Prince George’s Community College in Largo, Md.
Freshman Kiara Reeves (Aberdeen, Md./C. Milton Wright) led the Owls on the day, tallying her eighth double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while also recording five steals and blocking on shot. Sophomore Marie Fox (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood) ended her basketball career at Harford as the second-highest scorer with eight points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Brionna Carter led the Lakers with 19 points, while Brittany Boyce added another 10 points for Garrett.
Garrett led 31-12 after 20 minutes of play, but outscored the Owls just 29-23 in the second half on the way to the 60-35 victory.
