It seems change is in the air in Havre de Grace and the veil of secrecy may be slipping a bit, now that the city has made public a formerly-private list of those waiting to lease one of the 240 available marina boat slips.
The list of those waiting for a chance to rent a boat slip at the city Yacht Basin now runs 73 names long, but has long been a point of grief for frustrated boaters who were never certain they were given a fair chance to lease a slip in the marina.
The list was posted on the City of Havre de Grace’s web site this week, along with the caveat that, “The City of Havre de Grace does not guarantee the accuracy of the information contained in this list. List is updated approximately every four months.”
Recognize any names on the list?
I’ve got to give a round of applause for Mark Manuel for hanging on to the dream of leasing a marina slip for longer than a half-decade now.
The recent posting of this waiting list may portend other changes in the future at Havre de Grace’s marina.

Here is the City of Havre de Grace’s City Yacht Basin Waiting List Policy:
Waiting list will consist of a chronological list of applicants who wish to lease a slip.
All applications shall list the name, date, address, phone numbers, and boat length, beam, draft, manufacturer, and model year. All applicants shall pay a $50.00 non-refundable fee to reserve a position on the Waiting List. Application fee will not be applied to any slip fees, taxes or other costs.
All contact with applicants will be by phone. It is the duty of the applicant to update the information to keep all data current and relevant.
At the end of each lease term, the vacant slips will be offered first to the current permanent slip-holders for relocation as approved by marina manager (island slip-holders do not qualify as current permanent slip-holders), and secondly to waiting list applicants.
All slip assignments shall be made by the marina manager or agent for The City of Havre de Grace.
Waiting list applicants shall be given a maximum of two opportunities to decline a slip. After two opportunities to obtain a slip, the applicant will be removed from the list. If they wish to remain on the list they will start at the bottom of the list.
No slips shall be pro-rated until after September 1st.
If a current lessee sells their vessel, they may allow the buyer to use the same slip for the balance of the season

Interesting to see good ol’ Edward Kennedy on the list (16). I hope he doesn’t get drunk and sink his boat with a young woman on it….LOL
By the way, the marina waiting list has been on the city website since the end of August. But I’m glad it is getting Dagger attention now.

If you happen to live in Haver De Grace. it show’s the mayor and council have be come a ware they have tax paying’ citizen’s. who have right’s also. and I might add one in particular that stood his ground.

Your about 6 months late with this breaking news. Check the city web site once in awhile and you might be up to speed on things.

I would suggest. a delegate had a hand. in getting the council to take a look at the marina issue’s.they certainly were not worried about one man’s battle in the way it was operated.
Old new’s is good new’s.

I had made mention of the list when it was first posted…thanks to Councilman Bill Martin’s comitte’s hard work.
Yes Vet…. All the noise did prompt some questions to be asked and in the end the city did the right thing.
Many Reforms have come to pass in the last year.

I have to truthfully say that since October …and reaching a crescendo in late December…with full settlement in January, Mayor Dougherty has taken the bull by the horns in this matter. In the end the truth prevailed over those that misled a lot of people on both sides of the dispute. The city cannot and will not say much on the matter but I have covered it in another article. The main point is as follows from that article ……
(( The following excerpt from the mutual release, (signed by the city and I), sums up what has happened and I’m satisfied with both the results and ramifications.
……….” The parties acknowledge that the city acted in good faith on information that it had received and that the city later determined it would not rely upon the information. “…………. ))
I have to say it was a very pleasant surprise and brought back a lot of faith in the system…belief in right and wrong.
This is not a time for gloating, rather a time to build on what is a new and strong foundation.
The Dagger kept it alive to a great extent.
Go Dagger !

Dear just dropped in: Ow. That hurts. Vietnamvet is right: “Old new’s is good new’s.”
vietnam vet says
I agree with RichieC. the Dagger kept the issue’s of the Marina going until it was resolved. they continued to allow comment’s on the Homeless women of Haver De Grace until something was done.
if it become’s and issue. the Dagger has shown it’s willingness to let the public resolve and issue. even if it become’s ”OLD NEW’S”.
in RichieC’s word’s go Dagger

For those of you thinking it was futal to get on the list…now is a good time…its significantly shorter than the one posted ! The one posted hasn’t been updated since august. With a slip comes free boat ramp use…showers…water…dock box…and metered electricity. It customarily has the cheapest fuel around. The place has just been rebuilt ! It also is video surveilled now for security (entrances to docks, NOT boats).
The phone number is 410-939-0015
Go Dagger !
Delegate B. Dan Riley says
Job well done RichieC!
Phil Dirt says
I’m not a boat owner, but I only see good things coming from this change. If I happened to be on the list, I would be wondering if big money big shots were jumping past me to grab open spots by greasing some palms, like slipping the maitre d’ a few bills to get a good table and making the folks who were waiting in the lobby wait a little longer.
Open government is better government.
Less government is better government.

Dan…Im not alone…(wink wink).

It seems the X-dock master has made off with the data base of yacht basin patrons. Once again he is trying to involve us in his arguments and vendettas. Fool me once shame on him. Fool me twice shame on me.
A letter has been sent out to most of the yacht basin patrons soliciting his return to the yacht basin. My understanding is that he quit his job after refusing a transfer. If he didnt want to leave the citys employment why did he quit?
The most disturbing part of this is that he took, and is using, the database of yacht basin customers that belongs to the city. This pilfering should be looked into as I have personal information I have submitted to the dock master of the city and it was not for his personal use. It has now gone to creepy.
RichieC says
I have heard about the letter but I haven’t seen it.
I’m now trying to remember if I ever gave my social sec # or other info to him?
