Should we just accept that malfeasance and politics go hand-in-hand and simply write it off as “the nature of the beast?”
Some might suggest we turn a blind eye and hold our elected officials to lesser standards because they do so much other good for the communities they represent.
But I think we need to hold them to higher standards. If we can’t stop wrong-doing among those create and uphold laws and run the governments that dictate our everyday lives, what hope is there for stopping wrong-doing among those of us who have never taken an Oath of Office?

Brian…
Just as we have varying degrees of crimes and aggravating qualifiers we should have a aggravating circumstance to politicians who have committed malfeasance. This would apply to anyone taking an oath or working at the will of such. “BREAKING THE PUBLIC TRUST”..would treble the damages and sentence to any crime committed.

Ever since we accepted the President of the United States lying in court as a “minor indiscretion not worth of a finding of guilty, the rate of decline of the slippery slope has increased. Lots of folk forget that the slickster didn’t just get a puffer in the Oval Office, he also lied in court. We go to jail for that crap!
We now expect our elected officials to be crooks. The good news is that we are seldom disappointed!
