I would have definitely picked Whole Foods to be in the top 5 but the more traditional, affordable grocers that are so close to our neighborhoods surprised me. The six prominent health experts picked the winners out of the nations largest chains based on the freshest and healthiest foods, and which ones offer the best tools to help shoppers make smart at are leading the way to healthier food shopping choices.
I am very shocked that Ralph’s Grocers is not on there. They are in the West and remind me of Wegman’s.

What!!! Where’s Klein’s on the list? 🙂 Nice to know we have 2 on the list, but would love to have a closer Trader Joe’s than Towson.

Unfortunately, this is a nationally based list and most stores in this area are local/regional with less than 100 stores. Most of the Safeway stores left our area years ago and the ones that are still here seem like orphans. Pathmark must have performed a major turn around since I left Southeast PA because they were pretty low on my list then.

Path mark…safeway…giant…martins..super fresh are supplied all or in part by C&S wholesale. These are all related to royal A HOLD co of Holland.
As a frozen driver I remember chicken in bags falling and spilling on the floor of refer trailers and being kicked back into the bags with feet. I never buy chicken that’s prepared at the deli counter for that reason.
An article I recall showed that those stores are eclipsed in the 5 Philadelphia counties in sales by WA WA.

Richie I hope you reported this abusive asault on the chicken to and animal abuse center. How about some free moveing roaches in a local food market & just bought a ”Rotten” chicken in one of the local grocery’s.
on a brighter note. How about the ” swarm” of killer bee’s that presented them self’s a few years ago in a bel air tire store. kept hush hush from the public. rode in on a load of new tires.
It was believed they were Contained at that location.

Viet..(chuckle)
Actually the chicken is frozen and in bulk..deli size…in open bags. The distribution center makes this mess when they distribute to the stores. They are delivering less than truck load…in many cases just a case or two of each item…they fall and badda bing.
