FREDERICK, Md.—The Harford men’s soccer team and freshman goalie Taylor Dize (Bel Air, Md./Salem Christian) notched their third shutout and second straight with a 4-0 win over Frederick on Wednesday at Frederick.
Sophomore CJ Murray (London, England/Kaiserslatern) scored two goals and freshman Santiago Meija (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) added one goal and one assist as the Fighting Owls (4-5-1, 2-4-0 MDJUCO) rolled over the Cougars (0-9, 0-5 MDJUCO).
Freshman Sean Conlon (Weisbadin, Germany/West Nottingham Academy) put the Owls on the board with the eventual game-winner at the 22:00 mark after taking a cross from freshman Scott Covelly (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) and heading in past the Frederick keeper.
Just eight minutes later at the 30:00 mark, Murray notched his first goal of the game as he engaged in a footrace with a Cougar defender for a pass from freshman Jared Ferguson (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) eventually winning the ball and sneaking it past the keeper to put Harford up, 2-0.
The Owls carried that lead into the half and built on it in the 71st minute after Meija headed down a ball from sophomore Curtis Ballard (Pylesville, Md./Harford Christian) and put it away to take a 3-0 lead, before Murray tacked on his second goal of the game at the 83:00 mark after taking a pass through the midfield from Meija and beating the keeper one-on-one to give Harford the 4-0 win.
Dize totaled five saves and faced just five shots from the Cougars, while the Owls totaled 18 shots for the day and held a 3-0 advantage on corner kicks.
The Fighting Owls return to Harford Stadium on Friday when they take on CCBC-Catonsville as part of a doubleheader with the women’s team at 7:00 p.m
