Wondering what was going to replace Cactus Willie’s at Harford Mall? Turns out the space is going to be occupied by a new Red Robin. Could a Sonic be far behind?
Stacey over at Bel Air News and Views uncovered a press release on the Red Robin website from September 4th announcing the opening, as well as a fundraiser to occur on the September 22nd grand opening.

(Red Robin) will open its eighth Maryland restaurant in Bel Air, located at 602 Bel Air Road, which is located at the Harford Mall, on Monday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m. Red Robin serves high-quality gourmet burgers, appetizers, entrees, salads and beverages in a kid- and family-friendly atmosphere. As part of its grand opening celebrations, the Bel Air Red Robin® restaurant will host a Burgers With A Heart® fundraiser to benefit the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Through Burgers With a Heart®, Red Robin will donate 50 cents from every gourmet burger sold to NCMEC during grand-opening week from Sept. 22 to 28. The money raised will help bring prevention education to children nationwide.
“On behalf of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, I would like to thank Red Robin for their generous support of our mission,” said Robbie Callaway, NCMEC co-founder and past Chairman of the Board. “It is important that we empower families to make safer decisions for their children, and communication and education are vital tools in that effort. With Red Robin’s support, we are able to reach many more families across the country with our messages of child safety.”
“We are thrilled to be expanding the Red Robin family of restaurants in Maryland, while also supporting such a wonderful family-oriented cause,” said Eric Houseman, Red Robin president and chief operating officer. “We invite everyone to come to Red Robin and enjoy one of our more than two dozen high-quality gourmet burgers to support the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children as we open our newest restaurant in Bel Air.”
Red Robin focuses its philanthropic support on local and national causes that promote the health, welfare and education of children, families and citizens in the communities it serves. Because Red Robin is all about kids and families, its ongoing partnership with NCMEC has continued to grow through the company’s new restaurant openings and additional programs such as “The Next Gourmet Burger Kids’ Recipe Contest” since 2006.
The 6,114-square-foot Bel Air Red Robin® restaurant will seat 206 guests. Red Robin has seven additional restaurants in Maryland, including locations in Annapolis, Columbia, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Owings, Towson and Waldorf.

Good Cause……Good Cause.

So has anyone been to a red robin before? I know there is one in glasgow. How does it compare to fudruckers? Seems that that may be similar, although red robin looks to have a bigger selection and more focus on booze.
Kendra says
Excited… now can someone tell me when the ‘Turtle’ will open in Aberdeen?
Dell says
All I know is they have a catchy jingle:
“REEEEED Robin! YUUUUUUUUUM!”

Great, another chain restaurant in Bel Air. Awesome! Can’t wait. Should be really nice. What a great idea. Red Robin, Chilis, Pizzeria Uno, TGI Fridays, Red Lobster, Outback, Baja Fresh, Ruby Tuesday’s, McDonalds and Taco Bell all within 300 yards of one another.
brad says
isnt there a five guys at harford mall … so nice of that landlord to put the same style business there … why not add a fuddruckers … maybe move cheeburger cheeburger up there
Steve says
great point brad, something I didn’t even think of. Who needs five guys now? Especially when you want some fancy drink to go with your burger.
I would take Five Guys down here in Aberdeen, but that could take a few years to get the right permits…

Steve;
I’ll take a Red Robin over a Fudruckers anytime. If you know me, you know I like and know my food, especially fast food. Too bad for Five Guys, but after once there, it would take some serious hunger issues to go back. My grandson and I look for excuses to go to Glasgow so we can stop there.
Steve says
Dave:
Fudruckers is ok, nothing special. Better burgers than most chains, which isn’t that difficult to accomplish. If Red Robin is better, I’ll have to check it out.
As for Five Guys, I like it. Can’t eat it too often though. Red Robin and Five Guys are in different classes, as one is borderline fast-food, so it should be interesting to see if they suffer.
Driving to Glasgow is almost worth it as opposed to Bel Air just to avoid the congestion for us in the lower county.
Dave Yensan says
Steve;
The last part is the great Amen! Driving to or in Bel Air just simply sucks! By the way, if you want a truly great burger cheap, try Grumpy’s on Saturday from 12:00 to 3:00. They are fresh made and HALF PRICED and you don’t have to look all over the place to park. The good folks in Bel Air have lots to be proud of, but I’m damned if I can find anything good to say.
Brian Young says
Don’t forget Nathan’s hot dogs! Five Guys (amazing burgers), Nathan’s (supposedly good burgers), and Red Robin. Greene Turtle and their great burgers aren’t far away, either. Fudrucker’s specialty was the chicken sandwich. The rest isn’t special, but I miss having those chicken sandwich’s. If only Chik-fil-a would expand past the hole off of 95.
Cheeburger is still the best, though…they take longer to cook, but those burgers are good!
Bohman says
never ate at red robin hope its good. as for five guys, decent enough burgers i guess, just dangerous to walk around in there as the floor seems to be very slippery with grease residue.

I ate at Red Robins last week the food was good. The service was horrible!!! We had to beg for our fries. We were there around 4pm and it wasn’t crowded at all. Our server told us everything was taking a while since they were busy. Half of the tables were empty!!!!!! I asked for mustard twice and never got it. I may go again since my boys liked it.

long time since the original postings here but it’s 2010 and our family just tried RR. Get Kevin as your server – he’s the best – he’s always doing little extra things for his guests – he’s worked at Ruby Tuesday also for a while. He makes for a good experience wherever he works.
