It’s time for another wine review, and this time two things have changed: 1.) it’s a white instead of a red and 2.) I tasted it with three other people. This time around I took on Praxis Cellars Sauvignon Blanc and of course it is compliments of Wine World in Abingdon.
When I took my first whiff of this one I breathed a deep sigh of satisfaction because a nice aroma of apple and citrus flooded my nostrils. These are the kind of smells I have come to adore from Sauvignon Blancs, which happen to be my favorite white varietal. Next came the tasting. As each person around the table took the first sip, words of praise rang out from two in the bunch. “Oh, I really like it,” said one. “It’s not as dry of a finish for this type of wine,” said another.
After taking the first sip myself, I was hit with a nice acidic snap. The kind of flavor that just makes you feel refreshed. And as one of my fellow diners pointed out, it finishes very smooth. This wine embodies what I have grown to love about Sauvignon Blancs: acidic refreshment with clean citrus and apple flavors. Being a big fan of whites from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, you could have fooled me on the Praxis. It comes from Sonoma County, but presents less like a mellow California Sauv Blanc and more like a satisfyingly present Blanc from the land down under.
This wine comes highly recommended for anyone looking for a great sunny day wine. Just kick back on a lawn chair and feel the refreshing goodness of Praxis Sauvignon Blanc. And for just $15.99 at Wine World, this wine seems like a steal.

Knowing next to nothing about wine, what would this complement as a dinner dish, Carlin?

Carlin, what type of food would be a good pairing with this wine? Thank you for the recommendations.

Not that I would ever call myself an expert in the field of fine wine and spirits, but it depends on what you are eating. If you are eating a red meat, then you would want to go with a red. If you are eating poultry or a fish, then go with a white.
My personal preference is a wine called “Big House”. Their reds are great, but the white could be better.
Red Diamond is good as well as most wines from Boordy.
Nothing beats a fruit and cheese platter next to any glass.

For the Praxis, I would recommend something light. You can have heavier meats with it, but it all depends on the sauce and/or spices used. Maybe a light cream sauce or merely salt and pepper seasoning would go along with this wine. I myself am usually a fan of wine without food. It gives me more of a one-on-one with the wine.
